Synthesis Method

 

Rare earth bromides are usually prepared by vacuum dehydration of their crystalline hydrates. Dissolving rare earth oxides in hydrobromic acid, evaporating and concentrating, can obtain crystal hydrates of rare earth bromides, and generally the number of crystal waters is 6-7. Dehydration of rare earth bromide crystal hydrates mixed with ammonium bromide can obtain higher purity rare earth bromides (the crystal hydrates of rare earth bromides will hydrolyze during the heating process). Another effective method for the synthesis of rare earth bromides is the direct solid-state reaction of rare earth oxides and ammonium bromide. Rare earth bromides require dry storage.
